SmartController is a highly flexible monitoring and control unit for use in Distribution Automation or Substation Automation.
It can be used for a variety of applications including, an Intelligent Controller, Data Concentrator, Gateway Unit, RTU, Local Operator Interface and Fault Detection Unit. It is designed to be panel mounted or wall mounted and incorporates a full colour graphics display for local control and operation. It can monitor and control multiple switches/feeders through user definable graphics. It can interface with existing meters, IEDs and protection relays for a complete integrated solution.

- Flexible HW: SmartController is based on flexible hardware architecture supporting a range of plug-in plant interface modules and communication options. This enables users to select the point count and communication ports to match their requirements. Plant signals are connected via removable two-part connectors providing efficient installation on site. The Local Operator Panel provides an intuitive and flexible operator interface for a range of monitoring and control applications. The Local Operator Panel displays data in both numerical and graphical format including dynamic One-Line Diagrams, SOE logs, alarm logs, fault indications, and measurements. The display also has 15 configurable alarm and status LEDs and the unit supports both keypad and touch-screen interfaces
- Communications: SmartController can communicate to a Remote Control Centre (DMS, EMS or SCADA Master) via serial or Ethernet connection using a range of protocols including IEC104, IEC101, and DNP3. The unit is available with different combinations of serial and Ethernet ports. It incorporates RS232/RS485 serial ports supporting a range of industry standard communication protocols for interfacing with local intelligent devices including meters, protection relays and fault recorders. The unit also supports IEC61850 for use in substation automation and interfacing with substation relays. For high availability, redundant LAN interfaces can be provided.
- Modules: Available I/O modules include, DC Analogue Inputs, AC Analogue Inputs, Digital Inputs and Digital Outputs. The direct AC measurement module supports a full range of RMS and power measurements. In addition, the module supports directional fault detection based on limit transgression for a configurable number of power cycles, thus allowing rapid identification of feeder faults.
- Tools:Through powerful yet user friendly tools, SmartController can be configured for all feeder and system level functionality allowing parameter configuration, interlocks and system applications to be configured easily. The unit supports an IEC61131 application engine which enables users to define their own specific applications. A range of maintenance and diagnostic facilities are available via the Operator Panel and USB-PC interface.
